Blue, Red and Green. Mostly Blue and Red. Left and Right. Some in between, but not much. It's the "In Between" that America, it's citizens, desperately need. Our choices, on election days, are too extreme. Like vinegar and oil.
No matter what your political flavor is, one has to agree that there is common ground for the good of the country and it's occupants. Why can't we achieve this common ground and work together, as a nation, to straighten out the wrongs so that "everyone" has an opportunity to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness".
Reasons are many as to why this can't be achieved. One is Religion. In the deep south and mid-west, religion is a way of life. Days don't start without prayer and the reading of Bible verses. Kids don't attend public schools where moments of silent reflection aren't permitted. And there is NOTHING wrong with that. It's the way generations have grown up with. Religion, and the practice thereof, however, are personal in nature. One persons tea is anothers coffee. Therefore, religion must be left out of politics. We all have faith. But faith has degrees to it. My faith may not be as devout as your faith, but I make no waves as to the severity of yours over mine. I hear a lot of people chime in on the notion that "Christianity" is the driving force for which this country was formed and governed. That statement is far from true. The framers of the U.S. Constitution made a point of keeping religion out of government for the sake of freedom. Freedom to choose how and when to pray, and not to let government tell you how or when. British rule, at the time, forbade any other religion but "The Church of England" (Episcopal), and our fore fathers saw that as wrong.
As a nation, some 200 plus years later, we are striving to force religion on others again through politics. We're trying to force everyone into believing that abortion (appauling to me) is wrong, and that everyone should be forced not to be able to get one. This is a personal freedom of choice. One that I would not encourage anyone in my family of women to seek. However, if anyone would, I would have to bite my tongue and let them be. It's their choice. I can't let my faith get in their way. The argument is when does life start? The Bible, does NOT define that moment. It merely states that murder is against God's law in the Ten Commandments. Scientists are hesitant to define this threshold in fear of losing government funding. We may never know the exact nano second life begins, and when it's murder to abort, but we as a nation must bite our tongues on the issue of abortion. It may not be to your liking, but we must allow freedom of choice. Everyone has an opinion, and that opinion may not be your neighbors.
I am not, by definition, a religious person. I leave open, the possibilities there may be an entity watching over us, but find it highly improbable one exists. I have a scientific approach to life and religion. Therefore my politics are neutral in nature.
I find good in both red and blue, a lot of bad, but some good. We need to nurture the good from both sides and come together as one, tossing the inane aside so that we can foster growth and prosperity for everyone. Not just the haves.
Next blog will be on Federal taxes and the IRS.
